What Woodwind Instrument Should You Learn to Play First?

Flute
The flute is a common instrument for beginners, and although its small size makes it look easy, keep in mind that the flute requires great control of air and breathing. Imagine blowing on top of a bottle to make a sound for several seconds at a time, that’s basically how you play the flute. Although the flute is relatively light, some younger beginner students have trouble keeping it horizontal or reaching for some keys. There are specially made curved grooves that facilitate their handling, so the length or strength of the arm is a minor problem at the beginning.
Harmonica
It’s simple, but like any instrument, it becomes more complicated as you learn more, but it’s definitely an easy instrument to learn to play. It is relatively cheap and you can get cheap versions, but, like any other instrument, you can go as expensive as you want.
Clarinet
Clarinet is another common woodwind instrument which is easy to learn to play when you are starting out. This also requires a lot of air, and special attention should be paid to the embouchure of the beginner clarinetist to properly seal the mouthpiece and allow the tongue to vibrate. Also, keep in mind that the tabs will be an additional expense for clarinetists that flute players do not have to worry about. Physically, be sure to find a clarinet balanced enough to sustain itself with good posture and a correct bell angle without excess tension or discomfort.
Recorder
The recorder is probably the most economical and easy to learn to play woodwind instrument and this can be a good option for children under 10 years old. The recorders are light, inexpensive, plastic and easy to sound. The fingerings are a clarinet, but the real value you can get from learning to play a recorder is learning to read music, keep time and breathe well.
Saxophone
The saxophone is the last of the wooden wind instruments that you should learn to play as a beginner. While there are three common types of saxophones in use today (alto saxophones, tenor saxophones, and baritone), the alto saxophone is the one with which the youngest students will begin with as they easy to learn to play.
